Stuart A. Sklar is a shareholder at Fabian, Sklar & King, P.C. Stuart has litigated hundreds of fire and explosion cases and has collected millions of dollars on behalf of his clients, including a recent settlement of $21 million for the children of a couple who were killed in a propane gas explosion.
He is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). He is the only attorney representing policyholders and those injured or killed in fires and explosions appointed as a principal member of the National Fire Protection Association’s Technical Committee on Fire Investigations. The committee is responsible for NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations. He was also active in the development of the 2001, 2004, 2008, 2011 editions of NFPA 921, and is currently working on the 2014 edition. Stuart is also a principal member of the NFPA Technical Committee on Fire Investigator Professional Qualifications responsible for NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.
Stuart is a co-founder of the International Symposium on Fire and Investigation Science and Technology (ISFI), a biennial professional symposium designed to bring together international fire investigation professionals to present and discuss the latest in fire investigation science, research, technology and methodology. He has also given expert testimony on fire scene investigation methodologies and has testified before a subcommittee of the Michigan Legislature on pending insurance litigation. Stuart has lectured extensively on fire and explosion litigation issues througout the United States, Canada and England.
He is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, American Bar Association (Tort and Insurance Practice Section), American Bar Association (Property Insurance Committee), State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Association for Justice Executive Board and American Association for Justice (Fire and Property Insurance Litigation Group). Stuart has been was selected as a Michigan “Super Lawyer” by Law & Politics Magazine every year since 2006.
Stuart earned a B.A. from Michigan State University in 1982 and a J.D. from the Michigan State University College of Law in 1985.
